Why I Love My Kindle

Updated: Mar 3, 2020

Major book lover here. Growing up I spent my allowance and babysitting money on books. I had 2 large bookshelves lined with books I would read and re-read when the mood struck. I was not a techie girl. Some days I still put my phone on silent and turn off my smartwatch to get lost in a book. So it’s bananas that I’m writing a post sharing 3 reasons why I love my Kindle.

A few years ago my husband bought me a Samsung tablet and I got my introduction to e-books. Initially downloaded a few free books and kind of forgot about them. It wasn’t until I downloaded a yoga book that I even used it for anything other than blogging or workout videos. I was impressed! And duh, found it pretty convenient that I didn’t have to weigh down any pages to go through the poses.

My daughter killed that beautiful tablet and managed to crack the screen on my Surface Pro 3 that I got to replace it – took me until last year to even bother buying another tablet. Fast-forward several years later and rewind to about 4 months ago I a realization that I cannot read a bajillion books on my tablet (another very nice Samsung model that my daughter is not allowed to even look at, ha ha – but seriously she can’t touch it) without some sort of discomfort. Major discomfort. It has a 10 inch screen and mind as well be a mini laptop for the amount of things I use it for. Holding it to read anything longer than a couple of articles isn’t the wisest idea.

So I caved and was gifted a new Kindle for Mother’s Day this year. Took some getting used to but I’m in book heaven, here’s why (in order of importance):

#1 You can carry it anywhere.

Really. It’s about as light as my phone -not much bigger in size- and the battery lasts for days. I carry stuff when I go out the door. I use a small planner to keep myself organized on the go (you will not see me putting appointments in my phone, ever). Mom preparedness always has me keeping snacks, band-aids and moisturizer on hand. You name it, I’ve probably got it in my bag. So it’s really important to not have to choose between giving my shoulder a break or carrying another separate bag entirely. And I’m a firm believer in having your heart’s desire. Bonus – you can put a cute case on it.

#2 It looks nothing like a computer screen.

I learn tech as I go. Right now my 13 year-old is researching building a gaming computer and just started getting into posting on Youtube so I’m learning all those techie ropes. I don’t find staring at a screen fun and now I’m doing it twice as much as I used to. Thankfully, the Kindle screen looks nothing like a computer screen. The 167 ppi glare-free display is insane. And no matter how much you adjust the built-in front light there is absolutely no glare, it still looks like a book page.

#3 A well-stocked library and then some at my finger tips.

Like I said, I love to read. Fun fact – when I go into our local library they have my books waiting for me at the counter. That’s a true confession from a bookworm! And thanks to my well-known love of aromatherapy I get passed donated books all the time. Yet another reason why a Kindle is perfect for me. Plus, there hasn’t been a book, so far, that I haven’t been able to find on Kindle. Prime reading and Kindle Unlimited were made for folks like me!

I still frequent the library and have a permanent collection of books on my shelves that I will probably forever love but I do love using my Kindle and hope that never has to change.
